Dear Friends

Dear Friends,
I have just read and signed the online petition: "Save Nazanin"
On January 3, 2006, 18yearold Nazanin was sentenced to death for murder by court in Iran after she reportedly admitted fatally stabbing
one of three men who attempted to rape her and her 16yearold niece ina park in Karaj (a suburb of Tehran)
in March 2005.
She was seventeen atthe time.
Her sentence is subject to review by the Court of Appeal, and if upheld, to confirmation by the Supreme Court.
Therefore, there isstill some time; to make a difference in this young life.
Urgent action is needed to help save a young life whose only crime was an attempt to defend her.
Nazanin and many like her are caught between two undesirable options.
On one hand, Iranian Penal Codeseverely limits the possibility of using
'selfdefense' as a legitimatedefense to aggression.
On the other hand, if Nazanin had allowed the rape to take place,
she could still be imprisoned,
flogged or stoned for having sex outside ofmarriage unless four male witnesses to the \
actual rape would testify on her be half.
A similar case involving another woman in Iran, by the name of
AfsanehNorouzi, resulted in her release due to international pressure.
I personally agree with what this petition says,
and I think you mightagree, too.
If you can spare a moment, please take a look, and considersigning yourself.
